TEXAS — In Florence, Texas, the Gault Archaeological Site provides evidence of human presence for at least 20,000 years, exceeding its function as a mere archaeological site.

The Stones are Speaking,” a documentary by Olive Talley, profiles archaeologist Mike Collins and his efforts to save 30 acres of a formerly commercial dig site in the Texas heartland that had been subject to looting.

By uncovering evidence of human settlement 20,000 years ago, Collins and his team revolutionized history and unearthed the Gault site, an incredibly important archaeological site in the Americas.

“I hope the film inspires people,” said Talley. “In this case, to preserve history before it’s irretrievably lost. If we could all be like Mike Collins, the world would be a better place. He gave selflessly to others, and shared his knowledge, educated students, and ultimately saved precious history for the benefit of all of us.”

Beyond recounting archaeological finds, the movie showcases the individual impact and collaborative achievement for a common purpose.

The documentary first premiered at Austin Film Festival in October and is now available for steaming.
