SAN MARCOS, Texas — Tubing season is here, and to prepare for it, San Marcos is putting up some temporary fencing along the riverfront.

According to a Facebook post, the City of San Marcos began installing the fencing last week at Rio Vista Park to “help manage access to the riverfront during the busy summer season.”

Staff will be at managed entry points on weekends and holidays, beginning at 6:30 a.m. until 11 p.m.

This comes while the San Marcos City Council considers a proposal that would add an access fee for out-of-town visitors to access the city’s river during weekends and holidays.

Last year, an ordinance went into effect that restricted single-use beverage containers on the river.
