COLUMBUS, Ohio — More than 8,000 runners are expected to take to the streets this weekend for the 2025 Komen Race for the Cure, dedicated to advancing research, treatment and diagnosis of breast cancer.
Among the participants, organizers said are more than 800 survivors and breast cancer patients. So far, through participants and donations, over $745,000 has been raised for local breast cancer programming.
Participants have the options of running a 5K, walking a 5K or walking 1 mile for the cause. There have been some slight changes to the race this year for residents and participants to be aware of.
The race takes place on Saturday, May 17, with registration beginning at 6:30 a.m. at North Bank Park, 311 W. Long St.
An opening ceremony begins at 8:10 a.m., but new this year is an extra 20 minutes to allow participants to join their teams and loved ones before the run begins at 8:45 a.m.
According to organizers, the event is set to conclude at 11 a.m.
Fundraising for research continues online at komen.org/columbusrace through June 16.
According to the Columbus Department of Public Service, several streets will be closed from 6 a.m. to noon on Saturday for event set up and clean up afterward.
The closed streets include:
- W. Long St. from Hocking St. to Marconi Blvd.
- W. Spring St. from West St. to Hocking St.
- Neil Ave from New Public Lane to W. Long St.
- Cozzins St. from Nationwide Blvd to W. Spring St.
Motorcyclists will also form the "Thunder Tunnel" along Long St. between Marconi Blvd and the pedestrian walk bridge near North Bank Park to cheer on walkers and runners.
The department said there will be rolling closures along the race route as particpants run through the downtown and Arena District.

Parking is available nearby for particpants to use ahead of the race. Participants will have a special rate of $10 to park at McConnell and Neil Garages.
