LAKELAND, Fla. — The Polk County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a double homicide in Lakeland after a car crashed into a home.

Sheriff Grady Judd says it happened on Pirates Way around 1:30 p.m. Monday afternoon during a “potential drug transaction.”

Judd says a white Mercedes was approached by two young men, who he believes shot the driver. The sheriff's office says the driver took off and ran into a 38-year-old man on a bike.

The white Mercedes then slammed into a house, crushing the man on the bike.

Sheriff Judd says the Mercedes emergency services called the sheriff’s office to report the crash.

When first responders arrived, they discovered the driver was shot in the chest and found the biker underneath the car. He was declared dead at the scene.

“We have what we know is two people that are victims.” said Judd. “We suspect at the early stages the man with the tattoos was there to sell marijuana, and these other folks planned to rip him off, and we ended up with a shooting. Now we have video. I want to make it abundantly clear to those that were there. We have your picture.”

Judd says deputies counted two big bags of marijuana and cash inside the car.
