ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. — The owner and operator of Jannus Live in St. Petersburg is stepping down.

The outdoor music venue announced Jeff Knight's resignation on social media.

Law enforcement says Knight was operating the boat that crashed into the Clearwater Ferry Sunday night, killing one person and injuring 10.

Normally, we would not name someone who has not been arrested or charged with a crime, but through his attorney, Knight admitted he was operating the boat the night of the accident but denies any negligence. He has not been arrested or charged with any wrongdoing, and FWC has made no indication that they play to charge him at this point.

Knight's attorney also said that, contrary to early reports, his client stuck around until first responders arrived and did not flee the scene of the crash. Knight voluntarily took a breathalyzer test that showed he had no alcohol in his system. His attorney says Knight directed one of the other passengers on his boat to call 911.

In Wednesday's statement, Jannus Live, said:

"Effective immediately, Jeff Knight is stepping down from his position at Jannus Live and will no longer have any affiliation with the venue.

"This decision was made out of respect for the victims of the recent Clearwater Ferry tragedy and to ensure that ongoing developments do not detract from the work of talented artists, staff, and community partners who have long contributed to the success of Jannus Live.

"Jannus Live will continue normal operations under its existing management team with a renewed focus on delivering world-class live entertainment to the St. Petersburg community."
