PALM BAY, Fla. — Crews from Palm Bay Fire Rescue contained brush fires covering about 5 acres Wednesday in the area of an unfinished development locally known as the Compound.

A week prior, firefighters tackled half a dozen brush fires at the same location.

Emergency personnel said Wednesday's fires were not threatening any homes in the area. Officials did not say if they had any information on what may have sparked the fires, or if there had been any injures reported in connection with it.

On April 23, officials with the Palm Bay Police Department said they believe brush fires at the Compound were sparked by a police cruiser. They say an officer was checking on a homeless camp on Port Malabar Road when the cruiser's exhaust may have sparked the tall, dry brush, catching the car on fire.

Other than minor injuries to the responding officer, officials said no one else was injured in the fires.
