MYAKKA CITY, Fla. — Manatee County Sheriff’s deputies are investigating the crash of a small plane at the Myakka Head Airport.

It happened shortly after 10 a.m. at the airport, located at 42650 State Road 64 East.

A single-engine plane crashed into trees shortly after takeoff.

Three people were on the plane, but none were seriously injured.

The plane was piloted by 35-year-old Christopher Mischo. Timothy Vasiloff, also 35, served as the co-pilot, and Alyssa Vasiloff, 34, was a passenger.

A brush fire ignited because of the crash but has since been brought under control, deputies said.

The Federal Aviation Administration has been notified to conduct a crash investigation.
