A small plane bound for Raleigh-Durham International Airport from New Jersey crashed Sunday, federal officials said.

The Cirrus SR22 crashed in a wooded area in Somerset, New Jersey, Sunday morning shortly after departing from Princeton Airport, according to a release from the Federal Aviation Administration.

Only the pilot was on board, the FAA said. Local news outlets in New Jersey report the pilot died in the crash.

Spectrum News 1 reached out to New Jersey State Police and local police, but have yet to get a response. 

The Federal Aviation Administration and National Transportation Safety Board are investigating the cause of the crash.
