A Davidson County Sheriff's Office deputy is in the hospital with injuries after he shot and wounded a suspect while serving an arrest warrant Tuesday morning.

The deputy was serving a warrant at about 11:15 a.m. at a home in the Pilot community, DCSO officials said in a new release Tuesday afternoon. Davidson County is northeast of Charlotte and just south of the Triad.

While trying to serve the warrant, a fight broke out between the deputy and wanted person, and the deputy shot the wanted person, according to authorities.

Both the deputy and suspect were taken to a hospital for their injuries, officials said.

The DCSO has released few details, and it is not currently releasing the names of those involved or the address of the shooting, saying the incident is an ongoing criminal investigation. The conditions of the deputy and wanted person are also unknown.

DCSO officials have asked the State Bureau of Investigation to look into the shooting, which is standard protocol.
