Rains from Tropical Storm Debby continue to cause flooding across North Carolina, and the storm spawned multiple Tornado Warnings in the state's coastal and central areas. Officials confirmed two people died Thursday in storms related to Debby.

A tornado destroyed homes and damaged a church and school in Wilson County early Thursday morning. One man died when a house collapsed in a tornado before dawn, county officials said.

In Rockingham County, a person died when a tree fell on a home, fire officials said. The county saw numerous fallen trees due to wet grounds and gusty winds, according to the National Weather Service.

More than 70 Tornado Warnings were issued across the state Thursday as Debby moved in closer, and there have been almost a dozen confirmed tornadoes between Wednesday and Thursday.

Flooding has been reported from Charlotte to the coast.

Since declaring a state of emergency Monday, Gov. Roy Cooper said over 350 National Guard soldiers are ready. He said 17 swift water rescue teams were strategically positioned across the state.

“This storm is unrelenting,” Cooper said Thursday.
