DALLAS — A Dallas man is dead after plunging over a waterfall in his raft in a remote area in Alaska, according to the Division of Alaska State Troopers.
Larry Erwin, 53, was on a remote river rafting trip in western Alaska when he lost control of his raft, just 53 miles southeast of the Alaska town of Bethel. Troopers said they were notified of the death on July 19, just before 6:30 p.m.
Troopers said in a statement that although life-saving measures were attempted when he was pulled ashore, Erwin has succumbed to his injuries. Erwin, along with other rafters on the trip, were evacuated by helicopter.
Erwin’s next of kin has been notified, according to troopers. It is unclear what river Erwin was rafting in at the time.
