CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Sarah Reidy-Jones is among the delegates at the Republican National Convention representing North Carolina this week.

What You Need To Know

  • The Republican National Convention is taking place in Milwaukee this week

  • Sarah Reidy-Jones is a pledged delegate for former President Donald Trump

  • She became a mom recently, which has given her a different outlook on issues that matter to her

  • For her the economy, national security and border security are top issues she's voting on this November

Reidy-Jones, a former chair and vice chair of the Mecklenburg County Republican Party, has been involved in politics since age 17.

“For more than half of my life, I have dedicated my life to the Republican Party,” Reidy-Jones said.

She’s helped the GOP in different ways, including grassroots organizing, membership growth and fundraising.

For the past year, she took a break from politics to focus on being a mom after she and her husband welcomed Ethan to their home.

“We had looked at the foster-to-adopt route. We couldn’t have kids of our own, and he just matched perfectly, and he moved in with us shortly after,” Reidy-Jones said.

With fresh eyes as a new parent, she’s getting back into the political world that will bring her to Milwaukee and the Republican National Convention this week.

“Raising him and making sure he gets an awesome life and opportunities is my absolute purpose now,” Reidy-Jones said.

Spectrum News 1 spoke with Reidy-Jones last month, and she said she was excited to represent North Carolina and for the RNC chairman to be from our state.

Reidy-Jones is a pledged delegate for former President Donald Trump and she looks forward to be part of this unifying event.

“I think to show a positive, excitement for the potential of our country. I think to hear the stories of what he did when he was president and what he'll continue to do and how it gives freedoms and opportunity and hope to so many Americans. It’s going to be really cool to be a part of that,” Reidy-Jones said.

She was an alternate delegate at the RNC in 2008 when she lived in Kentucky.

“It’s something surreal to be in an arena full of people and you are hearing from the potential next VP,” Reidy-Jones said.

In 2020, she was also a delegate, but the RNC was mostly virtual back then.

“We are excited to go to Milwaukee and have a redo,” Reidy-Jones said.

She also looks forward to support her party’s presumptive nominee.

“His policies are great, so I’m happy to support President Trump for re-election,” Reidy-Jones said.

The economy is one of the top concerns for this stay-at-home mom, especially now that her family is living on a single income.

“We are making difficult choices just in our own household, and I think this administration is tone deaf of the struggles that every American is feeling right now,” Reidy-Jones said.

She said she believes the GOP candidates this November are better suited to tackle the issues she cares about.

“My biggest concerns right now are the economy, [national] security and border security,” Reidy-Jones said.

Reidy-Jones said her perspective on Trump has not changed following his felony conviction.

“There are more important issues right now than worrying about something that doesn't affect me. It doesn't affect my family. Being able to pay the bills is what affects my family,” Reidy-Jones said.

Nearly 2,500 delegates are gathering in Wisconsin for a roll call vote to select the Republican presidential nominee.
