The New Hanover High School senior has been playing varsity sports since sixth grade.

“Sports is like really big for me and my family. My older brother Allen also played three sports, and then my dad is actually the football coach here at New Hanover. So sports is definitely playing a big role in my life,” she said.

She is a captain for the tennis team and also on the swim and lacrosse teams.

“Tennis is definitely my primary sport. This year, we actually made it to the 4A team state championship,” she said.

Her leadership skills have helped guide the team this past season.

“We're actually the first team from New Hanover County to ever make it to the North Carolina State Championship in women's tennis. So that was like a big accomplishment as a whole,” Dimock said.

The drive Dimock has learned goes beyond sports and has helped her in many other ways. She has a 4.72 GPA.

“I also love like pushing myself. Like even losing has taught me a lot about just like working harder and realizing that, you know, like things aren't always going to come easy,” she said.

She isn’t just a leader in sports. She also plays a role in helping her community.

“I've been working with my fourth grade buddy, and I've actually been trying to teach her English, because she's a native Spanish speaker,” Dimock said.

She volunteers weekly at a local elementary school as well as the pediatric wing at her local hospital.

“I, like, have a passion for working with kids,” Dimock said.

She says her family is a big part of her why.

“My dad's a teacher at our school, and my parents are just like, push me really hard to succeed,” she said.

But what drives her most is her passion.

“I feel like I do most of it genuinely. I like passion, and I like pursued a lot of volunteer opportunities that I do, and I just kind of realize or not, for me, it's like the ones that I'm doing my senior year are really the ones I've chosen to stick with over the years,” she said.

Dimock plans to double major in political science and business and hopes to help create policies that help kids.
