ASHEVILLE, N.C. — The online travel booking service ParkSleepFly did some sightseeing through Tripadvisor reviews to find the world’s top 25 most beautiful landmarks.
The Biltmore Estate in Asheville landed in the top five for the United States.
The Biltmore Estate is roughly 8,000 acres with sprawling grounds, gardens and a vineyard.
George Vanderbilt created the house with architect Richard Morris Hunt, but the 75 acres of gardens were designed by Frederick Law Olmsted, who also designed Central Park and the U.S. Capitol Grounds.
Kathleen Rosato has been a Biltmore Estate annual member for several years. During COVID-19 lockdowns, she took a week off work to explore all of the outdoor areas of the estate.
“I came every day for five to seven hours and I hiked, and I biked, and I walked, and I found all the places that I had never found before,” Rosato said.
When she retired, Rosato sold her house in Raleigh and moved full time to her condo in Asheville, so she could visit the Biltmore Estate every day.
“I’ve been to the Golden Gate Bridge. It’s very beautiful in itself, but you have so much more here,” Rosato said.
The Biltmore Estate is open year-round for visitors with tours of the home, grounds and vineyards.
