CAMP LEJEUNE, N.C. (AP) — Two U.S. Marines were killed and two others injured when the 7-ton truck they were riding in overturned Wednesday near their base in North Carolina, authorities said.

State Highway Patrol Lt. Devin Rich told a news conference that the truck was making a right turn onto a highway about 1 p.m. when it lost control and overturned. Rich said indications were that the truck was traveling “a little too fast” for the turn.

The accident occurred 8 miles from Camp Lejeune, and officials hadn't released the identities of the victims by late Wednesday afternoon.

The injured Marines were taken by helicopters to hospitals for treatment. Rich didn't know their conditions.

While it wasn't immediately known which unit the Marines were assigned to, the 2nd Marine Logistics Group, headquartered at Camp Lejeune, sent out an initial tweet saying it was aware of the accident. A subsequent tweet said the unit could “confirm multiple casualties.”
