NORTH CAROLINA — A storm system is bringing severe weather to parts of North Carolina Monday and tens of thousands are without power.

Sleet quickly turned to snow in parts of the North Carolina mountains as the system moved through. Some areas outside the mountains are also expecting wintry weather.

A few severe storms could produce damaging wind gusts and a low risk for a tornado in eastern parts of the state. Most of North Carolina will see at least one to three inches of rain through Monday morning.
