The Pirate Toy Fund's Toys on Patrol program is expanding.
The program, which provides local police departments with things like books, small games, and stuffed animals to give to children, is now supplying toys to the Brighton, Fairport and Gates Police departments, along with the Monroe County Court system.
The organization is working hard to make sure the toys are safe amid the pandemic.
"I think it's our responsibility, as an organization that gives out toys, to make sure the toys are safe where they're going. We had to throw out some stuffed animals because we had a little issue here inside, but we want to make sure whatever goes out is brand new and is safe for the kids to play with," Otto Harnishfeger, Pirate Toy Fund executive director, said.
Each item is wrapped in a protective bag, which can be kept in police patrol cars for officers to give to children on-site.
