CRAVEN COUNTY, N.C. -- Mumfest 2019 gives thousands of people a place for food, fun, and entertainment this weekend.

  • This year was the 39th year of the festival
  • Last year the event was flooded out due to Hurricane Florence
  • This year featured a kick-off concert Friday with country artist Granger Smith

The festival, "a combination of family fun, entertainment, attractions, exhibitors and great food", celebrated its 39th year in downtown New Bern.

This time last year the city was cleaning up after Hurricane Florence flooded entire blocks near the river.

This year, event goers reflect on how far the city has come.

“It was a horrible thing that happened,” said Kathy Ketchum, representing Temple B’nai Sholem, a Jewish Synagogue in downtown New Bern. “But so many people came together to make sure that we would still be New Bern strong.”

Mumfest is put on by Swiss Bear, Inc., a nonprofit that leads efforts to revitalize and redevelop the city’s downtown.

This year featured a kick-off concert Friday with country artist Granger Smith and vendors, artisans, and entertainers in the streets Saturday and Sunday.
