AUSTIN, Texas — Classes started Wednesday at the University of Texas at Austin for the 2019 – 2020 school year.
- Wednesday first day of classes
- Increased traffic near university
- December 9 is last day of fall semester
On Tuesday night, the university welcomed around 8,000 new first-year students, as well as transfer, graduate and law students at its Gone To Texas event. The name of the event refers to the time in history when adventurers etched “GTT” on their doorways as they headed to Texas.
Gone to Texas featured live performances and an official welcome from UT President Gregory L. Fenves.
With classes back in session, people can expect increased traffic around the university — especially on Guadalupe Street, Dean Keeton Street, Red River Street and Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard.
The last day of classes for the fall semester is December 9.
