EMERALD ISLE, N.C. -- Officials say one man is dead after he and three others had to be pulled out of the waters in Emerald Isle Sunday afternoon.
- Surfers pulled the four out of the water on Sunday
- One man, a 48 year old, has died
- Warning flags were flying at the time
This happened just weeks after three people drowned in the area in recent weeks.
First responders received a call for swimmers in distress near the Bogue Inlet pier. When they arrived, surfers had pulled out four swimmers.
CPR was given to one man who was taken to the hospital. That man, 48-year-old Robert Patterson Jr. of Jacksonville, has died.
Warning flags for potentially high surf or dangerous currents were flying at the time and remain flying.
The fire captain says they had as many as six water rescues over the weekend.
A fundraiser has been created to help with Patterson's funeral and other costs.
