BROOKLYN, N.Y. - The man convicted of charged related to the death of a Brooklyn woman who was shot and killed three years ago during the celebration preceding the annual West Indian Day Parade was sentenced Friday to 17 years behind bars.
Reginald Moise was 20 years old when he was charged with firing the gun that shot and killed 22-year-old Tiarah Poyau at the J'Ouvert festival in 2016.
He was originally arrested on a DWI charge when police linked him to the shooting.
Moise claimed he did not know his gun was loaded when it went off during the incident.
He was convicted of criminally negligent homicide, criminal possession of a weapon, reckless endangerment, and DWI.
