After more than 50 years, a piece of history is returning to Highland Park in Rochester.

The three-story children's pavilion that stood in the park from 1890 to 1963 will be rebuilt, according to members of the Highland Park Conservancy. Builders hope to rebuild the landmark using historic pictures of its original designs. The project will be funded by a $3 million capital campaign, half of which has already been raised.

"One of the grand additions that is very unobtrusively done is the elevator which guarantees that every child or every adult — whether they be in a wheelchair, canes, walkers — will be able to come to the very top," said Dr. Edna Clauch of the Highland Park Conservancy Board.

The project is expected to be completed in 2022, just in time for the bicentennial anniversary of park designer Frederick Olmsted's birthday.
