CARTERET COUNTY, N.C. -- Home improvement projects take a backseat this year as many homeowners still wrestle with repairs from Hurricane Florence.

  • Some visitors cannot find available contractors to give them estimates for storm related repairs

At this year's Crystal Coast Home and Garden Show in Morehead City, vendors say many visitors left with only business cards and plans to start new projects next year.

Chad MacAvery of Emerald Pool Works says they do not have as many pool installation projects this spring as usual. While talking with visitors of the Home and Garden Show, he learned many of them are interested in delaying plans for a pool until the fall -- or next year.

"People are still ready to move forward with their projects, they're just going to be waiting for their homes to be finished and completed," said MacAvery.

Some visitors cannot find available contractors to give them estimates for storm related repairs.

Tina Broder, a resident of Havelock, lost 15-20 feet of her backyard to the Neuse River and came to the Home and Garden Show hoping to come across someone who can help.

“You can’t find anybody to come out and give you a price because they’re so busy,” said Broder.

The two day event was part of the 31st annual Crystal Coast Home and Garden Show at the Crystal Coast Civic Center.
