WILMINGTON, N.C. -- A local food pantry in Wilmington, Mother Hubbard's Cupboard is opening its doors to federal government employees because of the government shutdown.
- They have dozens of volunteers each day working tirelessly to stock their pantry full of non-perishable foods to distribute to federal employees.
- They will open their doors to federal employees this Sunday, January 27 from 1 to 4 p.m. and Thursday, January 31 from 9:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.
- Each family will be assigned a volunteer shopper to go around and let them make choices on the foods they want and need for their families.
They have dozens of volunteers each day working tirelessly to stock their pantry full of non-perishable foods to distribute to federal employees. Kathy Wilson with the food pantry says lifting this burden off these families is extremely important.
"We want to make sure that they're not having to make choices about what bills they are going to pay, but they can't feed their families. We're hoping by giving them the opportunity to come in and get food here that they can stretch their dollar a little further for other things they need to take care of," Wilson said.
They will open their doors to federal employees this Sunday, January 27 from 1 to 4 p.m. and Thursday, January 31 from 9:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.

Mother Hubbard's Cupboard is located at 315 Red Cross St. in downtown Wilmington.
