ENRUL, N.C. -- Authorities say a 3-year-old child that was reported missing has been found.
- Casey Hathaway was reported missing from his grandmother's house in Ernul on Tuesday
- He has been found in good health
- Residents were asked to check storage sheds, vehicles, and their property for the child.
The announcement came from the FBI shortly before 10 p.m. Thursday night.
Sunday night the Craven County Sheriff's Office posted to Facebook that there's no evidence or information that indicates criminal activity.
Officials say Casey Hathaway, 3, was found by rescue crews near his grandmother's home off Toler and Aurora Roads. They say he is in good health and is being evaluated at Carolina East Medical Center. He is with his family.
He was reported missing Tuesday afternoon from his grandmother's house in the town of Ernul.
More than 100 search personnel, including the FBI and state investigators, were involved in the search in rural Craven County for the missing child. The Marine Corps, NCIS, State Highway Patrol, and other organizations from several counties assisted in the search, on air and on foot.
Temperatures were near freezing overnight and search crews were out Wednesday morning combing the area around the house. The child's grandmother says he was not properly dressed for the weather and was concerned about ditches and sinkholes in the area, according to Craven County Sheriff Chip Hughes.
According to the sheriff, the grandmother was watching three young children who went out to play and only two kids came back inside. The sheriff is not regarding the disappearance as suspicious.
Hughes says the 3 year old was last seen in a thick wooded area behind the home.
In an update Wednesday afternoon, officials said they don't have any reason to believe the child was kidnapped, but that he simply wandered off. They're using dogs, drones, and ATVs to find him.
The FBI's Charlotte Division says only professional searchers participated because of weather-related safety concerns.
