The downtown Jacksonville facility cost $16.5 million in construction, totaling $20 million. It was built to accommodate the growth in Onslow County, where they see 200 to 700 cases per day, according to Lisa Brown, the Onslow County Clerk of Superior Court.
"I’ve been with the court system for almost 35 years now and we have grown tremendously. We had run out of storage space, we had run out of courtroom space. So this is long overdue,” said Brown.
Court has been running out of six off-site locations since Florence. Four new courtrooms are now available, and five more are coming with the completion of the Summersill building in the next six to nine months.
