S&D Gun and Knife Show's promoters have been in business for thirty years. During that time, promoter Sherwood Caraway said he has seen ups and downs in business trends, often related to the current political atmosphere.
For example, he said when there is a republican in office, he notices customers feel less urgency to purchase a gun knowing their president advocates for their gun rights. On the other hand, he said when a democrat is in office, who may support stricter gun laws, he feels people are more likely to flock to gun shows while they still have the chance to purchase firearms.
However, no matter who is in office, Caraway said his gun shows see a range of buyers.
“There’s young ladies who come in here and get their first handgun because they have jobs where they feel like they need protection. And then there’s guys that come in here that are 60 or 70 years old that’s a gun hobbyist or gun collector," said Caraway.
