ONSLOW COUNTY, N.C. -- More than a dozen military families and veterans in Onslow County have a place to live, sleep and eat thanks to a Maryland man who took the time to reach out and help after Hurricane Florence.
- Scott Mallary founded Truckin 4 Troops, an organization to support active duty military, veterans and wounded warriors.
- He brought 15 campers to people who lost homes near Camp Lejeune.
- He spent at least $8,000 on gas getting them to Onslow County from Maryland.
Scott Mallary founded Truckin 4 Troops, an organization to support active duty military, veterans and wounded warriors. When he heard about the devastation near Camp Lejeune, he ended up purchasing 15 campers to bring to people who lost their homes. He even brought them generators and supplies while they lived in their driveways.
Mallary supplied nearly every home along Old Beechtree Lane with campers to live in while they fixed their homes, free of charge.
“Everyone was affected. It was Marine families, retired guys, and so I just started buying campers and bringing them down here and I've been doing it for about three months,” said Mallary.
He spent at least $8,000 on gas getting them to Onslow County from Maryland.
Many of the families are getting ready to move back home in the next few months once repairs are complete.
Mallary says he plans on buying furniture for many flood victims as well. He is also collecting donations and plans on selling the campers once they are vacated. Visit the Truckin 4 Troops website or call 410-977-8471 for more information.
