WILMINGTON, N.C. -- A pop up shop in Wilmington is giving away big name designer clothes for free.

  • The foundation received a big donation from a country club in New York
  • The club sent 1,500 pounds worth of designer clothing for hurricane relief
  • The clothes are estimated to be worth $50,000

Support the Port Foundation got a hefty donation from Oak Hill Country Club in Rochester, New York. The country club sent down 1,500 pounds worth of designer clothes to help with hurricane relief.

"We're talking about, you know, Nordstrom receipts and Peter Millar and Ralph Lauren and I'm like, 'Oh wow, this is getting weird,'" said Cedric Harrison, Support the Port executive director.

Harrison said he estimates the clothes being worth $50,000, and with such a huge donation, he wanted to make sure he did it right.

The first half of the clothes went to Hurricane Florence survivors who lost clothes in the storm. After survivors got first pick, Harrison opened the shop up to other non-profit organizations in need.

"We were already working with a population of this area that's usually underserved and don't have the resources that many others have in this area," said Harrison. "And so, the storm brought a microscope on those organizations that, you know, are directly touching the people that were directly affected."

From Monday, December 17 until Christmas Eve the shop will be open to the public Monday through Friday from 10 a.m.- 1 p.m. and 3 p.m.- 6 p.m. at the Wabi Sabi Warehouse, 19 North 9th Street, Wilmington.

Harrison said anyone with clothing needs should stop by.
