WILMINGTON, N.C. -- A young bald eagle found with a broken wing had to be euthanized.
Raleigh's American Wildlife Refuge rescued the 3-year-old eagle, which they named Penny.
She was taken to the Cape Fear Raptor Center in Wilmington for surgery and rehabilitation.
Rescuers were hoping Penny could be healed, but we learned Thursday morning that the bird's wing could not be repaired and she had lead poisoning.
