CRAVEN COUNTY, N.C. -- Shoppers are calling New Bern's new Harris Teeter "mind-boggling." The grocery store outgrew its Glenburnie Road location and moved not too far down the street to a 100,000 square foot facility on Dr. M.L.K. Boulevard.
- It features a wine and beer bar, hot food bar, sushi train, fresh squeezed juice bar, and more
- One shopper said he feels like the new store is a morale booster for the town
- Shoppers who sign up for a rewards card can earn perks toward Harris Teeter's fueling station
The store's makeover goes beyond grocery shopping. It features a wine and beer bar, hot food bar, sushi train, fresh squeezed juice bar, and more.
Some shoppers compared it to a Wegman's, a grocery store typically found in northern states with a cafe and beer on tap.
“We’re having fun," said Tom Stone, who came by the store after his doctor's appointment with his wife. "We sat at the bar and watched TV and had a coffee.” He and his wife, Mary, commented they never would have expected to do that while getting their groceries in eastern North Carolina.
Beyond the wide selection of groceries and fresh food, one shopper said he feels like the new store is a morale booster for the town.
“As you know we had a big hurricane just two or three months ago, and we’re still recovering from that," said Bill Jarvis. "So anything that comes like this is a shot in the arm for the residents and it’s a feeling of the community growing in a positive way.”
Shoppers who sign up for a rewards card can earn perks toward Harris Teeter's fueling station, located just across the parking lot.
The store is open from 6:00 a.m. to midnight daily. The fuel pumps are open 24 hours. The pharmacy is open Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m., Saturday from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., and Sunday from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.
