  • The sight of the garbage piles is a daily reminder to residents that they have a long road to recovery.
  • The deadline to apply for FEMA disaster recovery assistance is December 13.

The county is responsible for clearing the debris, but residents say the process is a large undertaking. Some have volunteered to help contractors clear the trash by moving it to more accessible locations.

The sight of the garbage piles is a daily reminder to residents that they have a long road to recovery.

"Knowing what everybody else is still going through -- it's depressing to walk out the door and just see your life sitting on the curb still," said resident Terry McIntosh.

McIntosh is receiving help from FEMA to make repairs to her home after it flooded.

The deadline to apply for FEMA disaster recovery assistance is December 13.
