LEANDER, Texas – A man is injured after a homemade explosive device detonated inside his Williamson County home.

On Saturday, November 24, Leander police said at 7:19 p.m. they received a 911 call from a 60-year-old man. The man was requesting medical assistance from an injury during an explosion.

Williamson County EMS, Leander firefighters, and police were called to the home on Newcastle Lane in Leander. 

Investigators discovered the man had been in the process of making explosives when the materials ignited. The man was transported to St. David’s Round Rock Medical Center with serious, but non-life threatening injuries. 

Crews detonated the remaining explosive materials at the home, because it was too dangerous to transport from the scene. Residents in nearby homes were evacuated during the detonation.

Numerous agencies are investigating the explosion including the Federal Bureau of Investigation, the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives, and Austin police’s bomb squad.

So far, no arrests have been made and charges are pending.
