EMERALD ISLE, N.C. -- The Lands End subdivision in Emerald Isle is one of the last parts of the town to deal with significant flooding.
- Ponds are overflowing and some roads are impassable
- The town has had two pumps to guide waters away from the subdivision but had to employ the help of a third larger pump
- It's hoped that all roads will be passable in the next few days
Ponds are overflowing from the rain brought by Hurricane Florence and some roads are impassable.
The town has had two pumps to guide waters away from the subdivision but had to employ the help of a third larger pump. The third pump can remove 8,000 gallons of water per minute.
However, officials are still running into complications while trying to clear the roads.
“Groundwater keeps popping back out in a few areas. We’ve pumped a few areas down and it keeps recharging and I think we’re going to experience that for a few more days. So we’re trying to do everything we can to get ahead of it,” said Emerald Isle Town Manager Frank Rush.
He said he hopes to have all roads passable in the next few days.
