One man is dead after a motorcycle and car crash in Newburgh.
Newburgh City Police say it happened Tuesday evening on South William Street in front of the Newburgh Armory Unity Center. Police say the man driving the motorcycle was driving fast on the wrong side of the road, hitting a car head-on. The motorcyclist was wearing a helmet, but died from his injuries.
Police say the driver of the car was ticketed for driving without a license. That person and a passenger suffered minor injuries.
Police say additional officers were called in, as a crowd of about two or three dozen people gathered near the scene.
"Because of the unruly crowd, we had to request assistance from the State Police, the Orange County Sheriff's Office, the Town of Newburgh [and] Town of New Windsor Police Departments, so they all responded to help us maintain the crime scene perimeter so we could do our job and investigate the accident," said Newburgh City Police Detective Sgt. Joseph Rutigliano.
Newburgh City Police say they are still investigating, and the district attorney's office is also looking into the case.
