BUFFALO, N.Y. — Soon, there won't be any more elephants at the Buffalo Zoo.

Asian elephants Jothi and Surapa moving to the Audubon Zoo in Louisiana.

The move will provide the elephants with multiple pools, shade trees and a newly built barn with heated and padded floors.

“We formed a task force that was made up of our internal staff as well as members of our board and leading experts in elephant care throughout the country," said Norah Fletchall, Buffalo Zoo President and CEO. "Looked at all the different scenarios, but we are focused on what’s best for Jothi and Surapa moving forward.”

The move is expected to take place later this fall.

There are no plans to bring in new elephants.
