BURGAW, N.C. -- Burgaw will begin a new tradition this New Year's Eve.
- Town to drop large metal blueberry on Dec. 31
- Event will take place from 5 - 7 p.m.
- This will be the first year for the event.
The town will drop a large metal blueberry over the historic train depot this Dec. 31. The town is already well known for its connection to the fruit.
It's home to the state Blueberry Festival each June.
The New Year's Eve event will be new, and it isn't planned for midnight like a traditional ball drop.
It will be from 5 to 7 p.m. so people can go home afterward and enjoy their own New Year's Eve traditions.
