WILMINGTON, N.C. -- All the rain we've gotten on the coast doesn't seem to be stopping visitors from riding ferries.
Operators say weather rarely has much effect on ridership.
The two vessels that run between Fort Fisher and Southport are running at capacity all day.
"Often the rain keeps people off the beach, so they're looking for something else to do and they're riding across to do a day in Southport or go to the aquarium, go to Wilmington. So, we really do not see a drop,” said Capt. Mary-Beth Ray of NC State Ferry System.
During this time of year, between 2,400 and 2,800 people ride the ferries between Fort Fisher and Southport each day.
