"When it pours, we reign," is the slogan for Beau Rivage Golf Course, but they're usually good draining system is no match for the continuous rainy weather.
"Typically it drains so well that we can let people out on the golf course," said Greg Pitts, head golf professional. "But, the last few days with the amount of rain that we've had, you know, it's definitely impacted our business and it's definitely impacted the amount of rounds we've had out here."
Pitts said on any given day they can expect about 150 rounds of play, but because of course conditions they had to adjust.
"There's a lot of standing water, some saturated low area, so that's the reason why we've delayed play today," said Pitts.
Tee times usually kick off at 7:00 a.m. but Wednesday the course delayed play until 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, Beau Rivage had to open as cart path only, meaning golfers had to stay on the cart path and not venue too far on the course. In several spots along the course and on golf cart paths, there were pools of water from backed up drainage.
The same issue at public parks cause New Hanover County to close their fields.
"When we receive a good amount of rain, we typically have to close the fields for the condition of the fields to preserve them for future play, and also for safety," said Andy Johnson, New Hanover County Parks and Gardens assistant director.
A total of 50 fields were closed because of the slow drainage. Johnson said some summer camp plans may have been changed, but it is what's best for the maintenance of the fields.
