It is getting quite soggy across coastal North Carolina. Since Friday, over seven inches of rain has fallen in Wilmington and in Beaufort.  Hatteras has seen almost 10 inches. Those rainfall totals will continue to go up Wednesday.

Locations near the coast should see at least another one to three inches of rain Wednesday. A few locations could see more. As the rain falls on an already saturated ground, the threat for flooding will increase especially during periods of heavy downpours.

Everyone east of I-95 should watch for the potential of flooded roads during the downpours Wednesday. It can be difficult to judge just how deep flood waters may be over a road. It only takes about a foot of flowing water to float most cars, trucks, and SUVs. If you encounter a flooded road, you should turn around and find an alternate route.

Farther inland across central North Carolina not as much rain is forecast, but scattered storms with localized downpours are possible.

Everyone will see somewhat lower rain chances for Thursday and Friday, but it will not be completely dry. Scattered storms are still possible in the afternoons. The rain will just not be as widespread as it has been during the first half of the week in eastern North Carolina.
