WILMINGTON, N.C. - A Port City attraction filled with reptiles and venomous snakes is closed.
- Building up for sale
- Owner shot and killed last year, wife charged
- Attorneys have not responded to questions
In a recent Facebook post the Cape Fear Serpentarium announced it will say goodbye to the snake and reptile exhibit.
They say the building on Orange and Water Streets is up for sale.
Businesses owners nearby say they are sad to lose the unique site and would like to see something similar to the Serpentarium replace it.
"It's very educational to young kids and adults like myself. I would never go traunching around for these snakes and a lot of these guys do that," said curator for the Museum of the Bizarre Justin LaNasa.
The owner of the building, Dean Ripa, died last year after being shot and killed.
His wife, Regina Ripa, is charged with the shooting.
He leaves a young son who was supposed to be left with the business.
The attorneys have been contacted to find out when and where the snakes will go but they have not responded.
