WILMINGTON, N.C. -- Port City Marina will have a new houseboat neighborhood called The Strands.
- 75 houseboats to be created that can function on and off water
- Starting price of $259,000
- Hopes to have homes up within 10 weeks
The Strands will have 75 houseboats with one to three bedroom homes on the water.
They're to accommodate those who travel by boat and spend their majority of their time at the docks.
"Step number two for us would be re-creating this other places, so if it takes off here and this is a great incubator market for us, we'll create these neighborhoods in different places," said Port City Marina Owner Chuck Schoninger.
Some of those places will include Myrtle Beach, Charleston and Savannah.
Schoninger said he hopes to have the homes up within 10 weeks.
