WILMINGTON, N.C. -- As Wilmington moves forward with plans to renovate Independence Mall, Sears has already made steps to close.
Signs were seen posted Friday announcing the store's closing.
Some of the signs mentioned a deep discount on items in the store.
Last month officials announced Sears will be torn down to make room for new dining and retail locations.
We reported earlier that the mall will become 'The Collection at Independence' following a change that will include knocking out the Sears and putting more restaurants, outdoor store entrances, and street-scape.
Other plans for the mall includes adding a medical office building and incorporating green space into the property.
Developers say they are working with the city to obtain permits and approvals for construction.
