NEW BERN, N.C. --The completion of a renovation project in New Bern is bringing a whole new meaning to affordable housing.

On Tuesday, community leaders gathered for a ribbon cutting ceremony at Craven Terrace housing project, following a $27.1 million upgrade.

The 1940's era buildings got new ceilings, floors, kitchen appliances, and heating and air conditioning units.

Residents will also get to enjoy a community center with a computer lab and have access to tenant support services.

"Our whole goal is to make this a home and not just a place to stay,” said Brian Poulin, Co-owner of Evergreen Partners. “Besides fixing up the units and renovating them, we've also rolled out some tenant programs, have increased security in order to make this a place they really feel proud of,” Poulin added.

About 50 security cameras were installed along with eight license plate readers to help improve safety concerns for residents.

The renovation project took two years to complete.
