BRUNSWICK COUNTY, N.C. -- Early Sunday morning someone vandalized two churches in Brunswick County.

Members of Blackwell Chapel A.M.E. Zion Church and Providence Missionary Baptist both noticed the damage just before services began. Between the two, there is more than $1,000 in damage; doors and windows were shattered.

Those we spoke with are not sure if it was a random act of violence or if they were targeted. Regardless,  the Brunswick County Sheriff’s Office will be beefing up patrols in the area.

“Our forefathers put a lot in this church. They put their sweat and blood and money in these churches. And for a stranger to come along and do what they want to do and have their way with God’s church, it’s kind of disheartening,” said William Yeoman.
