OAK ISLAND, N.C. -- The Oak Island pier is one step closer to being rebuilt after 150 feet of it collapsed in 2016 during Hurricane Matthew.
Town manager, David Kellu, says the new pier comes with a price tag of $2.6 million dollars. A big chunk of that is being paid for by federal and state funds, and the Golden Leaf Foundation.
"We just want to bring everybody back, get the pier completed, and get things back the way they were before the storm,” says Kelly
While a portion of the pier may open sooner, the entire project is not expected to be completed until spring of 2019.
