MOREHEAD CITY, N.C. --Hope Mission, a non-profit Christian ministry in Carteret County is officially running a women’s homeless shelter in Morehead City.

It’s called Hope Floats.

They opened the doors to the shelter Feb. 2 and within a week they're already housing two women.

The shelter is a drug-free zone, meaning women coming in must pass a drug screening and a Breathalyzer test.

Within their 30 to 60 day stay, they'll also be given household responsibilities.

Hope Mission says their lease for the home only allows six beds, but this is only the beginning of their efforts to address the homeless problem in the county.

Women in the shelter will get help with finding jobs, finishing their education and getting access to support groups all in an effort to get them back on their feet.

Women interested in staying at the homeless shelter can contact Terri Mace at the Hope Mission office located at 1438 Bridges Street in Morehead City.
