WILMINGTON, N.C. -- There's a new hot spot to pose for pictures in the Port City. Residents and visitors are posting pictures on social media with a mural in downtown Wilmington in the background.
The painting depicts the state flag with the Cape Fear Bridge inside of it. On top, it says "I Believe in Wilmington."
Billy Mellon, who owns the restaurant Manna, and several other downtown businesses, sketched the design and paid for graphic designer to paint it.
He says it's exciting how much attention the mural is receiving. "If that became something as large as, you know, the Keep Austin Weird logo or the We Believe in Nashville situation that they have there, that'd be great," says Mellon.
There are several other murals in downtown Wilmington. According to city ordinances, sculptures, murals and other artwork are encouraged in the riverfront mixed-use district.
