ONSLOW COUNTY, N.C. – The Onslow County Sheriff’s Office has now identified the body of a woman found dead in Jacksonville on New Year’s Eve.

Deputies say 22-year-old Shelby Brown was reported missing by her mother in Sneads Ferry. Her body was found on Humphrey Road.

Brown may have been in the Jacksonville area on Dec. 4.

The state medical examiner conducted an autopsy but hasn't released a cause of death.

The case is being investigated as a homicide.
