CAMP LEJEUNE, N.C. -- A Camp Lejeune military prosecutor says a Marine Corps drill instructor was a "bully" who punched, choked and kicked recruits.
During closing arguments against Gunnery Sergeant Joseph Felix, the prosecution said eyewitnesses testified to seeing him punch recruits in the face and hit others with rifles, focusing his abuse on three Muslim recruits he said were terrorists.
Felix is charged with three counts of maltreatment toward three Muslim recruits. One of them committed suicide in boot camp after an exchange with Felix.
A Marine investigation after the suicide led to charges agains six drill instructors and the training battalion's former commanding officer.
